The Pearl Strings Christmas Album recorded in December 2014

1 Let it Snow!–Ring in the season with this wintery favorite! Jen and June warm us up with the vocals, and Helen spices it up with a violin solo. Everyone pipes in on the chorus. Jen-guitar, Barb-bass, Judy-bells.
2 The Whitest Christmas—The Cratchit family may not have much, but they are rich in love and tell us about it in this wonderful song from Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol. Everyone sings and Barb is the voice of the beloved Tiny Tim. Judy-banjo, Barb-bass, Jen-ukulele, June-jingle bells, Helen-bodhran.
3 A Marshmallow World—The perfect, puffy song for a snowy day! June’s sweet rendition makes you want to bust a move! June-vocals, Judy-guitar, Helen-viola, Jen-snare, Barb-bass.
4. The Christmas Song –A song arrogant enough to call itself THE Christmas Song better be good, and this one is. We jazzed it up a little with ukulele, bongos, and some whistling. June-vocals, Jen-whistling and ukulele, Helen-shaker, Barb-bass, Judy-bongos.
5. Birthday of a King—This sacred song about the birth of the Savior, though written in 1890, was new to us. The beautiful melody with the familiar message was heartfelt for the band. Jen-vocals and clarinet, June vocal harmonies, Judy-cello, Helen-ukulele, Barb-bass.
6. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings—It was quite a stretch for us to attempt this fun and lively arrangement by the Barenaked Ladies! We like it because we all ended together! June and Jen-vocals, Helen-vocal harmonies and shaker, Judy-guitar, Barb-bass.
7. One Small Child—This song was written in 1971 by David Meece, a Peabody Conservatory student who spent his career performing Christian music. We found it on a surprisingly lovely arrangement by Evie in 1977. We almost overlooked it just because of Evie’s haircut! We’re glad we gave it a listen! Jen and June-vocals, Helen-viola, Judy guitar, Bar-bass.
8. Good Christian Men, Rejoice!—We went a cappella for this spirited carol sung to the medieval tune In Dulci Jubilo. June, Jen, Helen, Barb-vocals, Judy-bodhran.
9. Crabs for Christmas—How great is it to live in a state that has its very own Christmas carol? Marylanders love their crabs, and only wish they were in season at Christmas time! June, Jen, Barb-vocals, Jen-guitar, Helen-snare, Judy-banjo, Barb-bass.
10 Don’t Take Down the Mistletoe—Oh that we could actually prolong the spirit of the season by not taking down our Christmas decorations! This song by Misty River expresses a sentiment we’ve all felt in a very tender way. Jen-vocals, June vocal harmonies, Judy-guitar, Helen-harmonica, Barb-bass.
